Course summary
Studying A-Level Biology develops and demonstrates a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge, and understanding of scientific methods. You will develop competence and confidence in practical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. You will have an appreciation for how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how it contributes to the success of the economy and society. The Biology specification is designed to provide opportunities for students to appreciate a sense of awe and wonder at the scale and impact of natural processes and phenomena: the importance of animals, plants, and microorganisms to life on Earth; the place of humankind in the natural world; legal issues relating to genetic engineering; how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the Sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society. The course is very diverse and covers the most popular aspects of Biology. The specification is divided into 6 modules: • Module 1 – Development of practical skills in Biology • Module 2 – Foundations in Biology • Module 3 – Exchange and transport • Module 4 – Biodiversity, evolution and disease • Module 5 – Communication, homeostasis and energy • Module 6 – Genetics, evolution and ecosystems
