Course summary
Our A Level in Spanish offers an extensive range of engaging topics to discover and learn from. Students will become confident communicator in Spanish, being able to listen and speak about specific subjects. They will also gain confidence in reading a range of authentic material from news articles to a novel entirely in Spanish! We will develop a wide range of skills including writing and translating too. The course also contains an independent research project in an area of particular personal interest, offering excellent preparation for study at undergraduate level. By the end of the course, students will have developed their understanding of the culture and society of countries where Spanish is spoken. AS units focus on the aspects of French speaking society, its current trends and the artistic culture. Specific topics include the modern and traditional values, the cyberspace, equal rights, modern day idols, Rregional identity in Spain and the cultural heritage. A2 Units focus on the current issues in society such as immigration, racism and integration in society. There is also a study of the political aspects of Spanish speaking countries, including the right to vote and teenagers, monarchies and dictatorships and finally ipopular movements (protests and strikes, unions, etc). Cultural study: students will study a film and a book, one in AS and the other in A2 and will write essays on each in the final exam. Independent Research Project: every student will complete independent research on a topic of their choice and will write a presentation on this for the speaking examination. this will be followed by a discussion of the topic chosen.
