Art and Design (Fine Art)
Course summary
The Art Department is currently following the AQA Fine Art scheme of work. This qualification builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired by candidates taking Art at GCSE. Candidates are introduced to a variety of experiences exploring a range of media, processes and techniques. There are opportunities to explore images, artefacts and resources relating to a range of art, craft and design from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples. Throughout the course, there is the chance to explore the use of a range of two and three-dimensional media. There is also an exploration of drawing using a variety of methods and materials in a variety of scales. Sketchbooks and research sheets are used to underpin the work and provide evidence of developing ideas and historical/critical/contextual materials related to gallery visits. In year 12 students produce a portfolio of work from starting points, topics or themes building on previous skills, knowledge and understanding explored during GCSE Art. The focus is on work which shows exploration, research, acquisition and skills. Towards the end of this year they will start to explore and research their own topic for their Personal Investigation which leads into year 13.
