The content of this qualification has been designed to ensure it supports progression towards careers across the whole Health and Social Care industry as well as higher study at University. The course has been planned in close connection with potential employers and professional bodies to ensure that students develop the vocational skills required for this vast and growing industry. The Health and Social Care industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in modern society and has a wide range of employment opportunities. New to the course is the exam content which is delivered through the two core units of Unit 1 Human Lifespan and Unit 2 Working in Health and Social Care and this reflects the exams added to every Level 3 course in the Sixth Form. Units are either mandatory (have to study) or optional (chosen by the teachers delivering the course based on the students taking the course).
Average GCSE Grade 4 or above.
The exams (Unit 1 & 2) must be passed to gain any qualification in Health and Social Care. Other units (Units 5 & 12) are assessed via coursework which is set by the School or Exam board and assess the work taught in lessons. It is advised that students who did not pass the Health and Social Care course in year 10/11 will struggle with this qualification. Students must be able to use their initiative, work independently, and show empathy and maturity to those around them in the wider community.
