PAPER 1 Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure In this unit students study the nature of economics and how markets work. They will also explore market failure and how governments intervene. Theme 3: Business behavior and the labour market In this unit students study how businesses grow and compete, the labour market and how the government intervenes to make markets work better. Written exam: 2 hours 35% of A Level PAPER 2 Theme 2: The UK economy - performance and policies Students study measures of economic performance including national income and economic growth. Aggregate demand and supply. Macroeconomic objectives and policy. Theme 4: A global perspective Students study international trade, inequality within and between countries, emerging and developing economies, and the public finance. They will also consider the role and impact of the financial sector. Written exam: 2 hours 35% of A Level PAPER 3 Questions drawn from all 4 themes. Written exam: 2 hours 30% of A Level
