Students who opt for Further Maths will follow the A-Level Maths and Further Maths specifications concurrently throughout the two years (please see the Mathematics A-Level course information page). Students will sit the AS Further Maths exam at the end of Year 12. In year 13, they will complete both the A-Level Maths and Further Maths courses and sit exams in both. Essentially, Further Maths students take two A-Level courses over two years, however this only counts as one of your three A-Level options, so you must choose two other courses alongside Further Maths (these cannot be Maths). The Further Maths A-Level contains study of Core Pure Mathematics, plus students will follow courses in Further Pure Maths and Further Mechanics. Students need a secure understanding of the algebra content covered at GCSE. Being confident working with surds and fractions is also an advantage.
- Grade 8 in Maths GCSE - Students need a to achieve a minimum of a grade 4 in Maths and one of the English GCSEs, and ideally a GCSE Average Point Score (A.P.S.) of at least 4.0, in order to be able to access any of our Level 3 Vocational and A-Level courses.
