Mathematics is one of the best subjects to develop your analytical, research and problem-solving skills. Not only will studying Maths help give you the knowledge to tackle scientific, mechanical, coding and abstract problems, it will also help you develop logic to tackle everyday issues like planning projects, managing budgets and even debating effectively. Students need a secure understanding of the algebra content covered at GCSE. Being confident working with surds and fractions is also an advantage. On this course you will study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. Those who study Maths A-Level will study the A-Level course for two years and be examined on it at the end of Year 13. (Those who study Further Maths will study and be examined on Maths A-Level in Year 12, and go on to study and be examined on Further Maths A-Level in Year 13. Please see the Further Maths course info page for more details). Mathematics A-Level is a must-have for degrees in Physics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Economics and, of course, Mathematics, although you may need to study a Further Mathematics course as well to do this.
