Course summary

The History A-Level course builds upon some of the units which students studied at GCSE, developing the key ideas and themes with which students are already familiar. The course at TWBS follows Edexcel’s Route E - Communist states in the 20th century. Over the two years you will study Russia 1917-91: from Lenin to Yeltsin, the German Democratic Republic 1949-90, and Britain: Losing and Gaining an Empire. Students will also undertake an independent study in the form of a Historiographical review. Please note that this is a demanding course which requires regular submission of essays and document assessments to enable students to develop exam technique. Students must therefore be capable of essay writing and be mindful of the time this takes outside of the classroom when choosing their Sixth Form course combination.
