This qualification is designed for students who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information and how to use social media in business. The transferable skills gained on this course will allow you to progress on to a wide range of higher education courses. Creating Systems to Manage Information – In this practical module you will design, create, test and evaluate a relational database system that manages information. Your final assessment will be carried out for ten hours arranged over a number of sessions in a 1 week period. Using Social Media in Business You will explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services and implement social media activities in a business to meet requirements. Note – you will have to work with a real client to set up a social media system for them. Information Technology Systems You will examine issues related to the use of IT systems and the impact that they have on organisations and individuals. To complete the assessment task within this unit, you will need to draw on your learning from across your programme. This unit will give you a fundamental and synoptic understanding of all areas of IT, supporting your progression to an ITrelated higher education course. Website Development You will review existing websites – commenting on their overall design and effectiveness. You will use scripting languages such as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript® and a simple text editor, or rapid application development tools. Finally, you will reflect on the website design and functionality using a testing and review process.
Merit in an IT based BTEC. If you have not studied IT at GCSE/ BTEC then a grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths 5 x grade 4 GCSEs or equivalent to be able to complete them at sixth form
50% Practical Assessment and 50% internally assessed portfolio of evidence.
