Course summary
A Level Biology is an exciting course that builds on your existing GCSE knowledge of key topics such as stem cells, enzymes, immunology and genetics. It also introduces new topics such as muscles, the biology of cancer and up-to-date advances in research. Would you like to learn about things such as how we can stop disease progression by switching off the production of proteins or how the environment can cause inherited changes in features without changes to the DNA sequence? Students will develop good practical skills during their Biology course and will complete experiments set by the exam board. This will provide excellent transferrable skills for future scientific courses and a wide array of careers Units studied include: Unit 1 – Biological Molecules Unit 2 – Organisms and substance exchange Unit 3 – Cells Unit 4 – Genetic information Unit 5 – Energy transfers Unit 6- Organisms: responses to the environment Unit 7 – Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems Unit 8- Control of gene expression
