The course is equivalent of 1 A-level and will be studied over two years. The course includes both theoretical and practical elements which students will find challenging but enjoyable. Mandatory Units: Unit 1: Body systems and the effects of physical activity (exam) Unit 2: Sports Coaching and activity leadership Unit 3: Sports organisation and development (exam) Choice of two of the following: Unit 10: Biomechanics and movement analysis Unit 17: Sports injuries and rehabilitation Unit 19: Sports Psychology It is an excellent course which sport minded students will love!
Grade 4 in GCSE PE or Merit in Level 2 5 x grade 4 GCSEs or equivalent to be able to complete them at sixth form
Mandatory units 1 and 3 will be externally assessed. Unit 1 will be a 70 mark 1 ½ hour examination and will take place in year 12. Unit 3 will be a 60 mark 1 hour examination and will take place in year 13. Both unit examinations can be resat in the following examination window in either January or June. Unit 3, and the other optional units, will be internally assessed by the class teacher. This assessment will take place in the form of assignments, presentations, portfolios and reports.
