This Applied General Science course follows a balanced programme covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It combines a familiar style of learning with refreshed content and an updated structure. This course will allow you to study how science is applied to many different types of professions and industries. The focus of the course is scientific usage, concentrating on how scientists and others use science in their work. You will also learn how science contributes to our lifestyle and the environment in which we live. You will have opportunities to develop broader skills and to become a well-rounded scientific thinker. This course will allow you to progress to scientific careers via a range of HE pathways. In the first year of Applied General Science Level 3 Extended Certificate, you will study: • Unit 1: Key Concepts in Science – written exam paper • Unit 2: Applied Experimental Techniques – coursework • Unit 3: Science in the Modern World- written exam paper with pre-released materials. In the second year of Applied General Science Level 3 Extended Certificate, you will also study • Unit 1: The Human Body- Written exam • Unit 2: Investigating Science -coursework • Unit 3: Optional unit-coursework
44 in GCSE Combined Science OR Grade 4 in two of the following: GCSE Biology; GCSE Chemistry; GCSE Physics. PLUS grade 4 in Maths 5 x grade 4 GCSEs or equivalent to be able to complete them at sixth form
In Year 12 the course has 3 units: Unit 1 Key concepts assessed with a 1 hour 30 minute exam Unit 2 Applied Experimental techniques - coursework Unit 3 Science in the Modern World - assessed with a 1 hour 30 minute exam with pre released materials In Year 13 the course has 3 units: Unit 4 Human body assessed with a 1 hour 30 minute exam Unit 5 Investigating science - coursework Unit 6- microbiology – coursework
