Assessment

Geography is a two-year course including three examinations to be taken at the end of year 13 and an independent investigation, completed during the latter part of Year 12, early part of Year 13. Unit 1 will include: Tectonic Processes and Hazards, Landscape Systems, Processes and Change, Coastal Landscapes and Change, The Water Cycle and Water insecurity and The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security. Unit 2 topics will include: Globalisation, Shaping Places, Diverse places, Superpowers and Global Development and Connections (including health, human rights and intervention). The final paper is a synoptic exam exploring Players, Attitudes and actions, Futures and uncertainties across all units. Unit 4 (independent investigation) is a non-examined assessment worth 20% of the qualification, which will take the form of a fieldwork investigation. The investigation may relate to any aspect of geography contained within the specification. The investigation will be internally assessed and externally moderated and between 3000-4000 words in length. There is a residential trip to Dorset in order to prepare for the independent investigation.
