Course summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care aims to provide an introduction to the sector. It is for students who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study program. It is equivalent in size to one A-Level. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications. The mandatory content of the qualification incorporates topics relevant across the Health and Social Care Sector: Unit 1: Human Lifestyle Development (Year 12) Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care (Year 12) Units 1 and 2 are externally assessed by an examination at the end of Year 12. Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs (Year 13) Unit 14: Physiological Disorders and their Care. Units 5 and 14 are internally assessed pieces of coursework. There will be two external examinations taken in Year 12 and two pieces of coursework to be completed in Year 13.
