Assessment

Two-year linear course of study. Students must complete all three components to be awarded the A level in English Literature. Component 1: Drama (examination) (30% of A level) Shakespeare: Tragedy or Comedy ‘Other Drama’ Currently A Streetcar Named Desire Component 2: Prose (examination) (20% of A level) Two prose texts from a chosen theme, with at least one being pre-1900. Comparison of the two texts. Component 3: Poetry (examination) (30% of A level) A selection of post-200 poems (20% of A level) A specified range of poetry from a literary period. Component 4: Coursework (NEA) (20% of A level) Free choice of two texts to study poetry, drama, prose, or literary non-fiction. One extended comparative essay of 2500-3000 words.
