The course will help you to communicate at a higher level in the language you have chosen, building on the work from GCSE. You will learn much more about a wide range of aspects of the society or societies in which the language is spoken and you will study film and literature from the target language country, which will broaden your horizons and give you a different perspective on life, society and history relevant to your chosen language.
Students who have not achieved Grade 4 in English and Maths join the resit group which is taught on Wednesday afternoons as a part of the Curriculum Enrichment Programme. Resits are offered in both the November and Summer examination sessions. Students who wish to improve their English or Maths GCSE grades can also join the resit group. Students require an upper grade of 5 or above at GCSE in the chosen language. Succeeding in language‐ learning at A level requires more than having a good memory for vocabulary. Students should be confident in their knowledge of grammar and, in particular, the tenses studied at GCSE. They should be able to demonstrate a good degree of control and manipulation of the foreign language.
