Course summary
At AS level pupils will: ● Explore different areas of study that will include The Western Classical Tradition, Choral Music in the Baroque Period, Music Theatre, British Popular Music 1960’s to the present day, and the study of set works. ● Learn how to compose in either a free or pastiche style and how to arrange music (including music technology). ● Learn about different ways of interpreting musical ideas through either live performing or music technology. ● Pupils will develop their listening, analytical skills, and practical/performing skills. At the A2 level pupils will: ● Explore the different periods of music from Baroque through to music of the modern day. This will include learning about different musical genres from Classical to Pop and Minimalist to jazz. Pupils will also study the development of musical ideas through various compositional techniques and arranging (including music technology). ● Learn about producing a high-quality musical performance through either live performance or music technology.
