Course summary

This course suits anyone who has an analytical and curious outlook on life. We are very proud of the results achieved in both external examinations and in coursework, which surpassed the national average in 2019. There are opportunities for creative writing, a language investigation, and a number of trips to enhance your learning experience. Our A Level English students have a strong record for progression in employment or higher education. The subject is held in high regard by employers and Higher Education providers. The qualification can lead to a huge range of careers as every aspect of work has transferable skills such as analysis, critical thinking, and a high level of accuracy in communication. Whilst studying AQA English Language at A Level you will learn about: - How to evaluate a wide range of texts from diverse periods throughout time - How children develop language, exploring the ideas of different theorists from Chomsky to Vgyotsky - The history and diversity of the language we use today, including how our language interacts with gender, geography, and socioeconomics - Varieties of English throughout the world - Writing creatively in response to the ideas you study

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above including maths. A minimum of 5 and 6 is required in English.
