Design and Technology (Product Design)
Course summary
This course is a natural extension to a range of design and technology GCSEs. It offers a real opportunity to develop your thinking and creativity skills. You’ll find lessons engaging as you are challenged to think about solutions to real life design problems and consider the power that you, as a designer, have to improve peoples’ daily lives. Teaching is carried out with passion and this same passion is encouraged from our students. Although some students opt for the subject purely because they have enjoyed it at GCSE, a large percentage already know that a career in the design or engineering field is for them. The course has been designed so that it can be tailored to the particular area of design you wish to work in, from graphic design to architecture and 3D product design. Students study a range of new topics relating to the work of designers in industry. The course has been designed to not only give you a good grounding in the materials and processes needed to design products, but also show you how designers and manufacturers work in industry to turn their product ideas into reality in a competitive global market place. For their A level portfolio, students will work with a real client to develop a commercial product. Students are free to choose a project that reflects their interest in the subject. These typically include architectural projects, graphic design work or industrial/product design.
