Animal Husbandry (Specific Animals)
Course summary
This is a vocational programme which will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the Animal Industry Sector, supporting progression to further Higher Education learning or the workplace. During this course you will study eight mandatory units and ten optional units over two years of the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Animal Management. As well as classroom delivery, you will also undertake placement in a real work environment with a requirement of 150 hours. Mandatory units include: · Animal Biology · Animal Welfare and Ethics · Practical Animal Husbandry · Animal Behaviour · Animal Health and Disease · Work Experience in the Animal Sector Optional units may include: · Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Management · Exotic Animal Husbandry · Animal Grooming Alongside your main programme of study, you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skill in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.
