Course summary

A broad basis of the study of the early years ector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a program of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. This is a two-year course, equivalent in size to one A Level. Students taking this qualification will study three mandatory units, which cover the following topics: Children’s Development, Communication and Numeracy, and Play and Learning. Students will complete 50 hours of work experience in the sector. We then select one option unit, which supports students’ progression to specialized degree programs within the sector and covers areas such as: safeguarding, the early years’ foundation stage, physical development, and health needs. why study this subject? The aim of the course is to equip you with both knowledge and skills to care for young children in a wide variety of settings (day nurseries, children’s centres, reception classes, infant classes, nursery classes, special schools, child-minders and family refuge centers) so the content reflects the breadth of work opportunities and experiences to enable you to do so.
