Course summary
● ‘Geography is a facilitating subject – this means that top universities have classified it as an academic subject that employers and universities respect highly. ● At AS level you will go on a variety of trips – ranging from local activities to Brighton and London, but you will have an opportunity for a longer field trip in the UK or abroad. ● At all levels, you will study a range of diverse and practical aspects of geography ranging from climate change to city advertising. ● The geography exam is based around both short and longer questions giving everybody a chance of achieving a good grade. ● You will answer the big questions of the world such as ‘How did the Olympics change East London’, ‘Will China overtake the USA as the world’s biggest power’ and ‘Why are so many people in the world still living on less than $1 a day’. ● To study Geography, you will be involved in debates, giving lectures, reading a range of news sources, and listening to podcasts. ● The course has an independent research project that is used in the exams. You will choose your topic of study. Some topics previously studied were ‘Why does hunger still exist in Africa’ and ‘How do volcanoes and earthquakes shape the lives of people’. ● Geography has the highest employment rate of any degree according to The Guardian and The Times.
