Course summary

● The study for A-Level in English is a mixture of exams and coursework. ● We focus on novels and plays that are varied and interesting which includes reading poetry, prose, and drama plays. ● We study a Shakespeare text. ● Working from the belief that no text exists in isolation, but is the product of the time in which it was produced, English Literature A-Level encourages students to explore the relationships that exist between texts and the contexts within which they are written, received, and understood. ● English Literature privileges the process of making autonomous meaning, encouraging students to debate and challenge the interpretations of other readers as they develop their own informed personal responses. ● Literature A-Level recognised as a ‘Door Opening’ A-Level by the Russell Group. ● As part of the course, you get to choose your own books for the non-exam assessment. ● You are expected to share your ideas, opinions, and observations during discussions. ● The class sizes are small so you get lots of individual attention and time to talk. ● You will learn how to articulate yourself really clearly….an essential life skill! ● Reading makes you more creative, opens new worlds, helps you to express yourself, and gives you interesting things to talk about.
