Course summary
A level Politics is for students seeking the opportunity to study how government and politics works in the UK and the USA and who wish to understand the ideas that shape decision-making and the complex world we live in today. In Unit 1, Government and Politics of the UK, you will study the UK constitution, government, the powers of the Prime Minister, UK political parties, elections and voting, referendums and pressure groups. In Unit 2, Government and politics of the USA and Comparative Politics, you will look at Presidential elections, pressure groups, the Constitution, political parties and social issues. Students will also compare UK-US political culture, government and politics. In Unit 3, Political Ideas, you will study the core ideas, of Socialism, Liberalism, Conservatism and Feminism.
