A Level History lessons are engaging and stimulating, which makes them both challenging and great fun! At Baylis, you will be treated like Historians. In lessons, you will be given the chance to develop your analytical and evaluative skills to enable you to form arguments which are both complex and convincing. It is these sought-after skills which makes History a highly regarded subject amongst top universities and employers. Our course is also extremely relevant to understanding our modern world and we will regularly make links to current affairs in lessons. You will have the opportunity to study some fascinating and diverse areas of History, which will cover the History of Britain, Europe and the USA: Component 1: England 1485-1558: The Early Tudors (25% of the A Level) Component 2: Russia 1894-1941 (15% of the A Level) Component 3: Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 (40% of the A Level) Coursework (20% of the A Level) You will be required to undertake in-depth analysis of sources and historical interpretations, as well as taking responsibility for your learning by conducting your own historical research. Therefore, we will encourage and expect you to read widely around the topics we study. We will undertake a lot of debate and discussion in class and we will expect you to participate fully in this, which will develop your public speaking skills. You will also be required to learn how to structure academic answers to historical questions for both your exams and the coursework.
