Course summary
This course looks at a turbulent and exciting period of history in both Britain and the USA. You will be trained to look for bias and prejudice in all the evidence you study to sift out what is useful and reliable in order for you to make decisions. To be successful in this course you will need to be able to write extended pieces of work and find reading an enjoyable pastime... There are 3 modules : you will study the development of the Tudors, including the challenges facing the consolidation and maintaining of the dynasty from both within and outside of England. The 2nd module is a study of America (1945-1980), exploring concepts and ideas such as American identity at home and abroad, and encouraging you to reflect on the nature of democracy in a pluralistic society. The 3rd module is a non-examined assessment where you will study an area of Northern Ireland in the twentieth century and you will research and produce a 4,500 word essay on a question of your choice.
