This course has been designed to help you develop an understanding of the value and significance of world events in the past in order to gain a deeper understanding of social, cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity and of events happening today. A big part of historical study at this level is learning how to write a great essay. You will learn how to incorporate real critical analysis into your essays and how to avoid the pitfalls of logical fallacies. What will I study? Year 12 ● Britain Transformed 1918-97 deals with developments and changes in Britain during the 20th century. ● The USA Boom, Bust & Recovery 1920-55 covers the Roaring Twenties, Prohibition, and the rise of organized crime and the Great Depression. Year 13 ● The British Experience of Warfare 1790-1918 examines not only the military aspects of the French Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Boer War, and World War 1 but also the political, social, and economic dimensions of these conflicts and how Britain was changed by them. ● Non-Examined Unit –The Role of Martin Luther King in the Civil Rights Movement This is an investigation to reach a conclusion about the impact of one individual on a key historical process.
At least five GCSE passes or equivalent in five different subjects. A good pass in GCSE English Language, GCSE Maths, and three other subjects. GCSE History will be beneficial but is not essential.
