The WJEC diploma in Food Science and Nutrition is a challenging but rewarding course aimed at students who wish to progress into a variety of food-focused careers including working within the food and hospitality industry or in sports and nutrition, healthcare, or educational settings. Students should choose this course as they can achieve a diploma to support entry to employment or university. Food is a subject with global relevance and the skills learned in this course can help you to expand into many sectors. This course can support students' progression to courses at the university level, as well as a wide range of career prospects. Students will study three units over the two years: ● Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat ● Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems ● Meeting The Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups
At least five GCSE passes or equivalent in five different subjects. Achieve a high grade at GCSE. Be motivated and enthusiastic about both practical and theoretical work. Be organized and methodical. Be able to meet deadlines e.g. completing homework and submitting work on time.
The three units are assessed via internal and external assessments, with each unit graded as a pass, merit or distinction.
