Course summary

T Levels are the new qualification for 16- to 19-year-olds that follow on from GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels. They have been co created by the Government, Industry and Awarding bodies to give you the skills and knowledge required to kickstart you chosen career and leap ahead of the crowd. The core element of the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction will give you knowledge in a range of subjects such as design principles, project management, health and safety, surveying and digital software. You will also learn about the commercial side of construction, including stakeholder management, business structures and entrepreneurship. The construction industry is changing rapidly to meet the needs of the 21st century with high expectations of sustainability, digital integration and better working relations. You will learn diverse new skills in digital technology, innovation, planning and sustainability, to take advantage of this exciting and unique Industry as it moves into the future. After completion of the core element, you will then follow a specialism designed to support your interests, so you can get a deeper understanding of your chosen subject in real-world industry scenarios, building up the skills required for your future job. The specialist modules in Surveying and Design will enable you to put everything you learn into practice, with a substantial industry placement of around 45 days. This provides an amazing opportunity to work alongside industry employers while you study, in such disciplines as Construction Management, Civil Engineering or Architectural practice, to gain invaluable experience along with many key skills that employers look for. Modules include • The structure of the construction industry. • How buildings are designed, estimated and constructed. • How health and safety and site welfare affect the construction industry. • How sustainability in the construction Industry is embedded with building technology. • The use of Science and mathematics in construction. • The use of CADD, Technology including 3D design and graphical detailing to create structural designs. • A variety of project management methods and techniques. • Building regulation, property valuation and the conversion of structures.
