You will learn the fundamentals of each discipline as well as the impact they can have on sports participation and performance. WHAT WILL I STUDY The specification content is divided into seven areas: ➢ Applied anatomy and physiology ➢ Skill acquisition ➢ Sport and society ➢ Exercise physiology ➢ Biomechanical movement ➢ Sport psychology ➢ Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport WHAT STUDENTS SAY: "A level PE is not just for athletes. It is a course that allows you to learn about the whole of the human body and mind."
To study A Levels you will need to have achieved 5 grade 5s or better at GCSE (as well as achieving at least grade 4 in GCSE English and mathematics). Standard entry requirements. While studying PE at GCSE is an advantage it is not essential.
This subject is assessed by two examinations at the end of your course and by the submission of your coursework. Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport 105 marks. 2 hour written exam. 35% of the total mark. Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport 105 marks. 2 hour written exam. 35% of the total mark. Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport 90 marks. Internal assessment, external moderation. 30% of the total mark.
