A level Mathematics provides students with the knowledge needed to prove from first principles mathematical facts that they had previously merely accepted. Students will learn how to explain why things are the way they are by using mathematical models and approaches. The course enables students to develop their analytical and reasoning skills, as well as their resilience. The course covers three areas: Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics. In Pure Mathematics students explore algebraic concepts in great detail including calculus and trigonometry. Mechanics and Statistics challenge students to apply their knowledge to real-world contexts such as kinematic forces, collisions, probability and normal distributions. These topics are assessed with three examinations at the end of Year 13.
5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English and Maths as well as meeting subject entry requirements. 7 in GCSE Maths
