Assessment

At A Level, candidates are required to build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills gained in GCSE with greater depth of study. Component One – Personal Investigation: Students develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their own choosing. They must produce practical documentation, artwork and a discrete written critical analysis of their investigation (1000 - 3000 words.) Approximately 40 weeks on this unit. Component One is 60% of the overall A Level grade. Component Two – Externally Set Assignment: OCR provides eight exciting starting points; candidates choose one. A preparation period precedes an unaided 15-hour supervised exam period. Students must produce evidence of preparatory studies reflecting individual study around their starting point. Progressive development of own personal ideas must culminate in a finished outcome. Component Two - 40% of the overall A Level grade.
