Course summary

After studying this course you will be an ideal candidate for working and communicating with others. The course could prepare students for a wide range of different university courses and careers in Teaching, Law, Social Services, Counselling, The Police Force, and the Armed Forces. The course is linear; you will sit 3 exams at the end of the course. There are 3 assessed components; Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Ethics, and A Study of Religion. Philosophy of Religion - You will have an in-depth study into the argument for the existence of God looking at the Cosmological, Ontological and Teleological Arguments. You will evaluate the impact evil and suffering has on belief in God and you will identify the nature and influence of Religious Experience. Religion and Ethics - You will study a variety of Deontological and Teleological systems; identifying the different ways people can make moral decisions. You will evaluate the use of ethical language in the study of Meta-Ethics and apply these theories to modern issues such as medical ethics, war and peace, and sexual ethics. Study of Religion - The religion you will study is Christianity. You will secure a knowledge in the religious beliefs and teachings of Christianity with a focus on sources of wisdom and authority. You will investigate the role of the Bible and Jesus and how Christians worship today.
