Course summary

This exciting new course offers the opportunity to study film, literature, and history alongside the culture, politics, and social aspects of the Spanish-speaking world. Students can expect the majority of the course to be delivered in Spanish and must be prepared to communicate in the language with the teacher and the rest of the class. The first part of the course is dedicated to bridging the gap between study at GCSE and A Level. There is a thorough revision of vocabulary and grammar taught at GCSE and new grammar is introduced. The course will cover: • Aspects of Spanish-speaking society: current trends such as the changing nature of the family unit and the cyber-society • Artistic culture in the Spanish-speaking world, looking at contemporary Hispanophone music and the Spanish cinema industry • The study of a Spanish author • The study of a Spanish film • Aspects of Spanish-speaking society: current issues such as the positive features of a diverse society and law and order • Aspects of political life in the Spanish-speaking world such as democracy and voting, popular movements and dictatorships
