Sociology
Course summary
Sociology is the study of human society. It analyses institutions such as the family, the education system, and the role of religion in society. It observes the day-to-day experiences of people in groups, for example, workers, gangs, and students. It charts trends that may help us understand modern life, for example, changes in the family, changing patterns of crime, changes in religious belief, and church attendance. Students will learn about different sociological theories and the research methods needed to study society. They will also investigate the structures and cultures of different societies and consider cross-cultural and historical differences.
