Course summary

Year 1 of this course allows students to begin to develop an understanding of the different topic areas within Psychology. They will examine issues surrounding the functioning of the memory, the formation of attachments, the impact of social influence and also the diagnosis of some mental illnesses. This course also develops students’ understanding of the processes involved in research and analysis; particularly developing skills of scientific enquiry. Year 2 of the course develops students’ knowledge of Psychology, building on what they have previously learnt. Students will study Social Psychology, Examining Adult Relationships and Biological Psychology (which examines the processes involved in biological rhythms and sleep) and Individual Differences (which focuses on the classification and treatment of a chosen mental disorder). Students are also expected to study Applied Psychology and study issues relating to Forensic Psychology. Throughout the course they will develop their ability to conduct research with a focus on analysis.
