Course summary
Year 1 Unit 1: Biological molecules. Unit 2: Cells. Unit 3: Organisms exchange substances with their environment. Unit 4: Genetic information and relationships between organisms. Year 2 Unit 5: Energy transfers in and between organisms. Unit 6: Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments. Unit 7: Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems. Unit 8: The control of gene expression. During this course, students will develop essential knowledge and understanding of the concepts of biology and the skills needed for the use of these in new and changing situations. Teaching will be classroom and practically based. During the course, students may be asked to attend one-day conferences/visits on aspects of the units, and there will be field study skill sessions at the end of the Year 12 and/or during Year 13. A contribution towards the costs of travel may be requested. This is one of the required practicals and attendance is mandatory.
