Photography gives students the opportunity to both express themselves through the creative process and gain a greater understanding of the world around them. Photography helps students develop problem solving skills and encourages them to delve deeper into world issues whilst acquiring a firmer understanding of both analogue and digital processes. Students who choose Photography at A Level will be introduced to a range of digital and hand manipulation techniques. Students will learn about the science of Photography and the importance of the Photograph as a narrative device. Students will also learn about the relationships between photography and wider world issues and will earn how to contextualise their ideas by making links to professional photographers and current events.
We ask that all students achieve grade 4 or equivalent (a Level 2 pass) in at least 4 subjects, alongside the following subject specific entry requirements: • Grade 4 in GCSE Photography or Grade 4 in GCSE English.
A Level Photography comprises of a coursework unit (portfolio) worth 60 % of the A Level and a practical examination unit set by the exam board worth 40% of the A Level.
