Assessment
The A Level course culminates in three assessed components: Paper 1: Language, the individual and society. This paper assesses textual variations and representations and children’s language development (0–11 years). This is assessed through a written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes and accounts for 40% of the A Level. Paper 2: Language diversity and change. This paper assesses language diversity and change and language discourses. It also assesses writing skills. This is assessed through a written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes and accounts for 40% of A Level. Non-exam assessment: Language in action. This involves a detailed language investigation and original writing. This has a word count of 3,500 and accounts for 20% of A Level. It is assessed by teachers and moderated by the AQA examination board.
