There are three exam papers in sociology and the key themes below are covered. In addition, students require an understanding of key theorists and knowledge of how and why sociological research should take place. - Education: Why do we have to go to school?! How do we experience school? Is education good for everyone in society? Is there an imbalance in education favouring an elite class? Are grammar schools outdated? - Family: What are the traditional roles within a family – do they still exist? What function does a family serve for society? - Crime and Deviance: Why do some people commit crime and others not? Can crime statistics be misleading? Does the media give us an accurate picture of what is happening relating to crime? Do some people turn to crime because of ‘labels’ put upon them? - The Media: Who owns the media? What are media stereotypes? What is the relationship between screen violence and real-life violence? Who constructs the news? What is the impact of New Media?
