Music performance (Group)
Course summary
The Btec Music course develops a wide range of musical skills, introducing you to a variety of styles of composition and performance, and developing analytical and listening skills. All units covered involve students developing their theoretical understanding, professional work in the music industry and playing in an ensemble context. Tasks range from producing extended chord progressions; four-part harmony; live performance and planning an event. Other units are chosen to suit the strengths and interests of the group. The unit currently being taught includes solo performance skills. In many cases students will pursue the subject beyond Btec at music colleges and universities, and some will continue into a career in performing, music technology, composing or teaching. Music is an excellent subject as it develops lateral thinking, broadens the mind, and reinforces effective learning strategies.
