Course summary

Areas of Study Philosophy - Students will look at concepts of “proof” and “knowledge.” They will be asked to examine whether or not the concept of “God” can be “proven” and look at challenges to these “proofs.” They will also look at arguments, such as, whether or not an uploaded “copy” of yourself would be considered an “afterlife.” Ethics - The meaning of good, bad, right and wrong. The application of natural moral law, situation ethics and virtue ethics (Human and non-human life and death), Introduction to meta-ethics (Divine command theory, utilitarianism, intuitionism). Study of Religion (Christianity) - Looks at some of the big issues facing religion today including gender and sexuality, science, the challenge of secularisation and migration and religious pluralism. Philosophy and Ethics in Dialogue with Religion - How religion has both affected and been affected by both philosophy and ethics. Career Opportunities Religious Studies can lead to a range of future careers, due to the nature of the subject, you will have a rich knowledge of diverse cultures which means you have the opportunity to embrace working in industries around the world, such as archaeology, human resources, psychotherapy, local government officer, the paralegal, a marketing executive, teaching, solicitor, barrister.
