Mathematics
Course summary
The study of Mathematics in the Sixth Form will develop a range of mathematical skills and techniques, as well as an appreciation of the intrinsic beauty of the subject. Boys will develop their rigour, tenacity and accuracy and learn to apply these skills in a wide range of contexts, both real-world and abstract. They will cultivate an understanding of how different branches of mathematics are connected and learn to recognise how a situation may be represented mathematically. Mathematics is a crucial element in the study of any scientific discipline while also being a fascinating subject in its own right. A one-year Maths course supplements subjects such as Biology, Economics, Geography or Psychology for which some basic knowledge of calculus and statistics is useful. Due to the broad range of topics, high course content and standard of assessment the course should not be viewed as an easy option. A Level of Mathematics is useful (and often necessary) for many subjects at university and jobs thereafter.
