
The BTEC Applied Science Extended Certificate qualification consists of Mandatory and Optional units, which are assessed by different methods. To achieve the BTEC Extended Certificate: a student must study a total of 4 units. These include: 3 MANDATORY UNITS: Unit 1. Principles and Applications of Science Assessed by written exam (set and marked by Pearson) Unit 2. Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques Assessed by coursework (set and marked internally by the College) Unit 3. Science Investigation Skills Assessed by task (set and marked by Pearson) 1 OPTIONAL UNIT: This unit will be assessed by the traditional coursework assignments and will be set and marked internally by the College. The content of this unit will be decided for September 2022, taking into account student preference, as far as is possible.
58% external assessment. 42% coursework. Examining Board – BTEC. This 4 unit qualification is the equivalent of one full A Level. Grades are awarded from Distinction* to Pass and carry the normal number of UCAS points for university entry.
