Course summary
A Level History at SST, builds on your understanding of the past through experiencing a broad and balanced course of study. The advanced study of History will further develop your interest and enthusiasm for the discipline by understanding its intrinsic value and significance it holds in helping you understand the current world. A Level History compliments future studies in the Arts, Anthropology, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law faculties at university. Experience of independent research and critical analysis skills are looked upon favourably by a wide range of employers, for example those in Journalism, Psychology, Philosophy, Economics, Law, Politics and Diplomacy, Social Care, Archaeology and Museum curation. A Level History will allow you to: • Acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of aspects such as social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity • Improve as effective and independent learners, and as critical and reflective thinkers with curious and enquiring minds, developing your ability to ask relevant and significant questions • Acquire an understanding of the nature of historical study, that history is concerned with judgements based on available evidence and that historical judgements are provisional • Organise and communicate your historical knowledge and understanding in different ways, arguing a case and reaching substantiated judgements
