Course summary

The course is designed to encourage candidates to develop a deeper enjoyment of literary study through reading widely and critically and with sophistication. Students should develop a love of literary texts by reading across centuries, styles of writing and genres. As well as developing a love of reading, candidates should be able to communicate knowledge, understanding and insight using accurate, coherent and sophisticated written expression.

Entry requirements

A minimum of Grade 6 at GCSE English Language is required.

How you'll be assessed

Love Through the Ages: Shakespeare, Unseen Poetry and Comparing Texts. 3 hours- open book in Section C only. 75 marks- 40% of A Level. Texts in Shared Contexts: Modern Times 2 hours 30 minutes open book. 75 marks- 40% of A Level. One piece of coursework: Independent Critical Study: Texts Across Time, 2500 words, 50 marks- 20% of A Level - assessed by teachers moderated by AQA.
