
Further Mathematics is a course intended for elite mathematicians intending to study mathematics or an associated subject (such as Engineering, the Sciences, Computing, Finance) to degree level. It deepens mathematical knowledge beyond the standard A Level. For those who enjoy mathematics it provides the chance to explore new and more challenging concepts. As well as assisting with your standard mathematics A Level, some prestigious universities have been known to lower their grade requirements for those who have studied further maths. A Level Further Mathematics is a highly valued, but extremely demanding course and is intended for those looking to study maths (or a related subject) beyond A Level.
It is required that candidates will have knowledge and understanding of Maths at GCSE grade 8 or above. Further Maths is encouraged as a fourth subject in addition to three A Levels.
Core Pure 1 and 2 (9FM0/01 & 9FM0/02). Two compulsory papers covering further pure content such as matrices and hyperbolic functions. Paper 3 - Option 1 (9FM0/3A-3D). Students can choose to study from a number of options including: Further Pure Maths, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics or Decision Maths. Paper 4 - Option 2 (9FM0/4A-4G). Students can choose to study one area of mathematics listed above to a higher level.
