
This course includes the study of: how language is affected by social contexts: gender, power and occupation; how spoken language varies from written language; audience, purpose, genre, context and representations through language; language change; and child language acquisition.
A minimum of Grade 6 at GCSE English Language is required.
Paper 1 -Language, the Individual and Society - written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes, 100 marks- 40%. Paper 2 -Language Diversity and change - Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes, 100 marks- 40%. Non-exam assessment - Language in Action. Word count: 3,500, 100 marks- 20%. Assessed by teachers and moderated by AQA: 1. Language Investigation (10%) 2. Original Writing (10%).
