
The aims of the course are to encourage candidates to: develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, the study of the subject; appreciate the contribution of economics to the understanding of the wider economic and social environment; develop an understanding of a range of concepts and an ability to use these concepts in a variety of different contexts; use an inquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of economics and develop the ability to think as an economist; and develop skills, qualities and attitudes that will equip them for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult and working life.
It is desired that students should have a grade 6 in GCSE Maths and a grade 6 or above in GCSE English Language. It is also recommended that students study the core maths qualification or A level Mathematics alongside this A level.
Paper 1 - Markets and Business Behaviour - 2 hour written exam - 35%. Paper 2 - The National and Global Economy - 2 hour written exam - 35%. Paper 3 - Microeconomics and Macroeconomics - 2 hour written exam - 30%.
