The media saturates everything we do in the developed world. Students will be given the tools to analyse and critique the media and to see the ways in which the media pervades our lives. Throughout the course students will develop skills in critical and reflective thinking and engage in the critical debates surrounding contemporary media. Our approach will allow students to engage confidently with critical and theoretical ideas from the perspectives of being a consumer and producer of media products. With each module covered students will be producing an innovative and inspired media product. Class notes, tasks and productions are uploaded onto a personal media blog. Media Studies should inspire students to continue learning beyond the confines of the classroom as well as developing employability skills that will serve them well both in higher education and in the workplace.
Three components: two 2 hour examinations (70%), one Non-examined assessment (30%). Paper 1 - Section A News and Online Media Language, Representation, Industries and Audiences. Paper 1 - Section B Advertising and Marketing, Music Video and Magazines, Media Language and Representation. Paper 2 - Section A Radio, Video Games, Film Media Industries and Audience. Long form TV Drama, Media Language, Representation, Industries and Audiences. NEA coursework brief to create a cross media campaign to include music video and website.
